The Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program is a therapeutic intervention designed to provide patients with the skills to deal with anxiety, stress and stress-related disorders. The 9-week program helps to develop cognitive, behavioural and attitudinal changes to address medical and psychological issues. This is a group psychotherapy program, not a general interest course.
Mindfulness refers to a quality of attention that is receptively aware and non-judgmental. It develops by cultivating presence in each moment. The MBSR program with Heidi Walk is designed to enhance mindfulness in all aspects of life and, with this increased awareness, to change how we relate to ourselves and the world around us.
The MBSR program has shown to be beneficial to patients experiencing the following medical issues:
- Stress relating to work, finances, family, and relationships
- Anxiety and panic attacks
- Sleep disturbances
- Stress-related illnesses
- Stress associated with a chronic illness, cancer, arthritis, heart disease
- Depression
- Eating disorders
- Compassion fatigue
- Chronic pain
